Customer’s Preference for E- Banking Services- A Comparative Study of SBI and HDFC in Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab

Abstract

The use of current technology is developing very fast and is constantly bringing new changes to our daily life. The Banking Industry is one of the sectors that has benefited from the technology by introduction of Electronic Banking (E-banking). With the help of E-Banking, both the banks and customers are in benefit as this technology provides easy access to banking services. Both primary and secondary data has been collected. 200 structured questionnaires has been filled by the customers of public and private sector banks to gather information concerning E-banking. Rural customers of Banks has also been taken into consideration, therefore, questionnaires were translated from English to Punjabi and then address to the respondents. The objectives of the study is to analyze the preferences of customers, examine the challenges faced by E-Banking users and recommend ways and means to improve the functioning of E-Banking services of State Bank of India and Housing Development Finance Corporation Bank Limited. The study indicated that banks used number of E- Banking services. There are also some factors like lack of knowledge, unsuitable location of Automated Teller Machines, poor network, lack of confidence, security level etc. effects the proper use of E-Banking services.
